Interview

Where do I come from?

Copenhagen, Denmark. Half German/half Danish.

Why do I sing?

Because the human voice can be so incredibly moving, and because I am convinced that we need theater and singing in our lives and in society to be able to reflect on ourselves and the world and to feel connected - or sometimes to escape from this world.

And what do I like apart from singing?

Reading, being in nature & catching up with my friends, relaxing and having fun.

My own personal musical highlight?

My debut at the Nuremberg State Theater as the Third Lady in Mozart's “The Magic Flute”

My motto?

If you can dream it, you can do it!

In the seasons 21/22 and 22/23 she performed on the main stage at the Bayerische Staatsoper during the Munich summer opera festival 2022 as one of the Ursulinen-sisters in the award-winning production of Krzysztof Penderecki’s “The Devils of Loudun” under the baton of GMD Vladimir Jurowski, with Simon Stone directing, and again for the revival of the show in March 2023.

Laura Hilden was born in Copenhagen, Denmark to Danish and German parents speaking both languages as a native from an early age. In Copenhagen she completed pre-conservatory education, studying with renowned mezzo-soprano Marianne Rørholm, former voice teacher at The Royal Danish Academy of Music. As of October 2020 she moved to Germany for her studies. Already during these years she gave her operatic debut in school productions as Third Lady (The Magic Flute), followed by roles like Cherubino (The Marriage of Figaro) & Zita (Gianni Schicchi).

In Munich she has been refining her work within the Lied-genre under the guidance of Tobias Truniger, as well as with internationally celebrated Lied interpreters Ian Bostridge, Christian Gerhaher and Gerold Huber. Furthermore she has received major artistic and vocal impulses from Ulrike Sonntag as well as Hedwig Fassbender and René Massis at Exzellenz Labor Oper 2024. Apart from her love for and main focus on the opera stage, the young mezzo-soprano dedicates herself to the lied/song genre. With her Lied-Duo-Partner, Danish Pianist Ruben Høgh, she was awarded 1st Prize at the Rued-Langgaard-Competition 2022 in Copenhagen and has since been performing at concert venues throughout Denmark, among others at the Rued-Langgaard-Festival.

Laura Hilden is a 2023 scholarship holder of the Richard Wagner Society Munich for emerging vocal talent and has throughout her studies received grants from several Danish and German foundations.
