Laura Richter

Where do I come from?

Aschaffenburg near Frankfurt

Why do I sing?

Because singing is a feeling of liberation and allows me and the listeners to experience the present moment in a special way, which in my opinion is particularly important in today's world with so many digital recordings.

And what do I like apart from singing?

Cooking, sewing, yoga, jogging and trying out good new restaurants in Munich with friends.

My own personal musical highlight?

My current engagement at the Residenztheater is a musical and performing fulfillment for me. You don't get to float across the stage as a mermaid in every production, making children's hearts beat faster in the audience and singing beautiful music with a late romantic touch.

My motto?

The journey is the destination

The young soprano Laura Richter, born in 2001, gained her first musical experience at the age of three on the piano, later on the harp, and as a long-standing member of the Bavarian State Youth Choir and the Bavarian Singakademie, with whom she was most recently heard as a soloist in Handel’s „Israel in Egypt“ and the baroque orchestra La Banda at the Isarphilharmonie.

She was a junior student at the HfMDK Frankfurt, completed her Bachelor’s degree at the HMT Munich with Prof. Lars Woldt and is currently studying for a Master’s degree in concert singing in the singing class of Prof. Christiane Iven and Prof. Chen Reiss.

She has expanded her training through numerous master classes at Haus Marteau, the Rostock Summer Campus, IMAS and the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival with teachers such as Gerhild Romberger, Ian Bostridge, Edda Moser, Emma Kirkby, Hedwig Fassbender and Brigitte Fassbaender.

Laura Richter received the Bärenreiter Special Prize, 1st prize at the Prague „Duschek Competition“ of the Mozart Society Czech Republic, 3rd prize and audience prize at the „Lions Music Prize Germany“ and was a finalist in the last round of the Berlin National Competition in the concert category.

She is also a scholarship holder of the Brentano Academy, where she has already given recitals at the Stadttheater Aschaffenburg, Goethe Haus Frankfurt and Konzerthaus Blaibach, as well as a scholarship holder of the JSB Academy of the Gaechinger Cantorey, where she sang as a soloist under Hans Christoph Rademann. She is a selected participant in the Excellence Laboratory Opera 2023 and has also received the Deutschlandstipendium scholarship since 2022.

Furthermore, she will give a song recital on the subject of „Lorelei“ with Julian Pregardien and Michael Gees at the end of September 2024 and a masterclass as part of the Brentano Festival.

In oratorio, she has sung the solo part of the „Gloria“ (Vivaldi), the „Stabat Mater“ (Scarlatti), „Israel in Egypt“ (Handel), the St. Matthew Passion (Bach), the Christmas Oratorio (Bach), the Mass in B minor (Bach), Exsultate jubilate (Mozart), Vesperae solennes de confessore (Mozart), Requiem (Faure), „Ein deutsches Requiem“ (Brahms) and the Oratorio de Noël (Saint-Saëns).

She has already appeared as Belinda (Dido and Aeneas), Papagena (Die Zauberflöte), Blonde (Die Entführung aus dem Serail), Zerlina (Don Giovanni), Gretchen (Der Wildschütz) and Lauretta (Gianni Schicchi) in university productions, festivals and in „Musiktheater im Reaktor“. Last June she sang Blonde at the Hofoper Jena. Since last season, Laura Richter has also been engaged at the Bavarian State Theatre as the Meerschwester in the drama opera „Andersen’s Tales“, directed by Philipp Stölzl for the current and upcoming season.
