Marie Maidowski
Interview
Where do I come from?
I was born and raised in chaotic, creative and warm Berlin.
Why do I sing?
I can't imagine anything more beautiful than triggering emotions in the audience with my voice. Singing is my absolute dream job.
And what do I like apart from singing?
My favorite way to spend my time is with friends, good food and enriching conversations.
My own personal musical highlight?
My first professional opera production with the contemporary music theater "Alzheim" by Xavier Dayer at the Staatstheater Cottbus. And of course my first "Susanna" in "The Marriage of Figaro" with the Munich Chamber Opera.
My motto?
Wish it, dream it, do it!
Biography
Soprano Marie Maidowski gained her first stage experience in the children’s and youth choir of the Deutsche Oper Berlin.
From 2017-2022 she studied with KS Prof. Julie Kaufmann at the University of the Arts in Berlin and is currently continuing her studies in the Master of Concert Singing with KS Prof. Christiane Iven at the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich.
She attended master classes with Marga Schiml and Gabriele Lechner and is supported by scholarships from the Cusanuswerk and the Junge Musikerstiftung Mühlheim. During her studies at the UdK, the soprano participated in numerous opera projects and workshop evenings of her course of studies. (Scenes of Ilia from „Idomeneo“ by W.A. Mozart, Ännchen from „Der Freischütz“ by Carl Maria von Weber, Juliet from „Romeo and Juliet“ by Heinrich Sutermeister).
In addition to her love of opera, Marie has a special passion for song and conceives and organizes her own recitals. In 2023, for example, she developed a program entitled „Ich stand in dunklen Träumen – Frauen erzählen von Liebe und Tod“ (I stood in dark dreams – women tell of love and death) for soprano, piano and narrator with works by various female composers and poets, which was performed in Berlin. In 2022 she sang at the conference „Aufbruch und Erinnerung. Paul Ben-Haim and Stefan Wolpe“ in Munich, she sang songs and scenes by the two ostracized composers.
Currently, the young soprano’s first opera engagements have taken her to the Staatstheater Cottbus (Barbarina in „Le nozze di Figaro“ by Mozart and nurse in the musical theater „Alzheim“ by Xavier Dayer), to the Kammeroper München (Susanna in „Die Hochzeit des Figaros“ by Mozart) and to the Wertingen Festival as Papagena in Mozart’s „Magic Flute“. In May 2023 Marie Maidowski will be seen in the world premiere of the children’s opera „Der Baumgeist“ by Leonard Evers, at the Espace Découverte of the Philharmonie Luxembourg.
